Last Resort
By Hannah Alexander

85408: Last Resort

When her 12-year-old cousin, Carissa Cooper, goes missing, Noelle Cooper returns to Hideaway to help in the search. She has no idea that Carissa’s research for a school paper has opened the door to past horrors. Noelle’s childhood friend, Nathan Trask, helps her search the land around the family home and business. Together they delve into such matters as the family curse, mental illness and spiritual gifts. Their probe reveals frightening secrets. Along the way, Nathan and Noelle deal with the past and forgiveness and they discover an attraction for each other they didn’t know existed. The strong faith of Nathan Trask and the spiritual gifting of Noelle Cooper shine as does their attraction and growing love for each other.

In LAST RESORT, Hannah Alexander weaves a tale that keeps the mystery reader searching for the next clue. Plenty of rabbit trails and red herrings make the book hard to put down. Also, the authors leave us with questions about the tragedy of mental illness. In the back of the book, they provide discussion questions where the reader can ponder--questions like: Does mental illness exclude the sufferer from personal accountability? And: Do you believe God still grants gifts of discernment?

Hannah Alexander is the pen name of Dr. Mel and Cheryl Hodde. They live in the Ozarks in a place much like the setting of LAST RESORT. I would recommend LAST RESORT. It is called a “crossover” book because it is one that will certainly be found on reading lists of non-churchgoers and churchgoers alike. Scheduled to hit bookstore shelves this summer, LAST RESORT will arouse mystery readers’ interest.
