Remembered
By Tamera Alexander

BACK COVER:

Colorado Territory 1871

The threat of war—and a final request—send Veronique Girard from France to a distant and uninviting country. In the Colorado Territory, she searches for the man who has held her heart since childhood—her father. Pierra Girar left Paris for the Americas to seek his fortune in fur trading, vowing to send for his wife and daughter. But twenty-five years have passed and his vow remains unfulfilled. Sifting through shards of broken promises, Veronique embarks on a dangerous search for a man she scarcely remembers.

His grief finally healed, Jack Brennan is moving on with life. After years of guiding families west, he is no working as a freighter to the mining towns surrounding Willow Springs. What he doesn’t count on is an unexpected traveling companion on his trips up into the mountains, and how one woman’s search will cause havoc with his plans…and his life.

REVIEWER’S COMMENTS:

Classy, particular, and outspoken, Veronique Girard is everything you’d imagine from a pampered French…servant? She might come from a life of service, but from the looks of her, you’d never guess. From the blond hair piled stylishly on her head to the lace gloves on her dainty hands, she does not belong in Colorado Territory--especially in dirty mining towns. And when I say “dirty”, I mean more than just muddy in the streets.

Jack Brennan swears he’ll never be the one to take the elegant Mademoiselle Girard to the disreputable towns she insists on visiting, but when she quite innocently buys his freight wagon out from under him, he’s forced to comply—or loose his job. Life suddenly gets complicated for Jack as he’s now escort and protector. Just the type of work he was trying to avoid.

Along the winding mountain passes and over the weeks and months they search the towns together, Jack comes to see Veronique as more than just a demanding lady of means that slows his progress. In fact, she’s become quite irresistible, and that just might get them in trouble if they’re not careful.

Veronique and Jack are opposites to the extreme and while the book ends happily ever after, I can’t help but wonder what kind of adjustments these two will have to each other once married. But it was fun to experience their annoyances with each other and to watch a delicate French lady cope in rugged Colorado Territory.

It took me longer to get into Remembered than it had the first two books in the series, but once the pace picked up, it was quite a ride. While each book in the series is just as interesting as the last, they are only vaguely related to each other. You could just as easily start at the end as at the beginning.

For its unique French twist and its intriguing contrast in characters, I recommend Remembered.
