"Yeah, that’s me. A crime-scene cleaner. Bonded and insured. Proud owner of my own business. A fascinating anomaly to those I meet around town.
People waiting in line behind me who strike up conversations always regret it.
“So, what do you do for a living?” the innocent bystander asks, desperate to pass time until it’s her turn to be rung up.
“I mop up blood at crime scenes.”
The color suddenly drains from her face. I might as well say I’m a vampire. Is there something that strange about a girl who cleans up blood for a living? I think not."

Excerpt from Hazardous Duty

Hazardous Duty by Christy Barritt as much fun as I’ve had reading a book in a while. I feel like Christian fiction, which I love and write, has just turned a corner with this book. It’s as funny and fast paced as any book, created with Christian readers in mind with no offensive language or situations—unless picking skull fragments out of a wall offends you. But it’s pure entertainment for anyone.

Gabby St. Clair wants to be a CSI specialist. She’s always loved science and mystery. It’s her dream. Except family trouble demanded her time and she didn’t finish college. Now, she’s cleaning up after murders, assaults and the occasional cat lady. It’s not all crime work.

But with her inclination toward crime solving, Gabby can’t help but notice some things don’t add up at the site of a murder. And when she takes her suspicion to the police, she’s met this either incompetence or a cover-up. And that bomb didn’t get left on her doorstep by accident either. So, she’s definitely on the right track.

Hazardous Duty switches pace from comedy to spine tingling suspense with quick deft skill. Barritt has a great cast of odd-ball characters backing up her heroine, a way-to-cute new neighbor who stacks up to be a bum like Gabby’s dad, a vegan who is willing to give a pro-animal speech at the least provocation, a cop who looks like Brad Pitt but who might be trying to kill Gabby.

I absolutely loved this book. I couldn’t even think of putting it down. I highly recommend you spend a sleepless night with it soon.
