Title of Book: A Dream Fulfilled By Cynthia M. Hickey They arrived at Fort Laramie around noon. The fort was rectangular in shape, made from bricks dried in the sun. The walls were fifteen feet high with a palisade in the center. At the top of the palisade, was a room that housed cannon. The fort wasn’t large enough to house the thirty wagons, so Aiken had them make their customary circle on the outside of it. A Dream Fulfilled was like a breath of fresh air to historical fiction. Through reading this book I was able to visit places like Soda Springs, the Snake River and Chimney Rock. Cynthia M. Hickey’s use of descriptive references gave me the feeling as if I was traveling along the wagon train with the characters. I felt A Dream Fulfilled successfully wove together a story of adventure, tragedy and romance. It was a tale of a young woman, strong in her faith braving the trail in hopes of a better life for her family. With only her brother and sister for traveling companions, Lizzie pursued her parent’s dream of a quiet life in Oregon. Although she encounters hardships, she picks herself up and continues. Through her faith she is able to encourage those around her and lend a helping hand to many families that are part of the wagon train. This truly seemed like a good old fashioned romance and was a very easy read. |
