I'll bet a double chocolate, iced frappe that you will immediately fall in love with Mandy, the adorable five-year old deaf daughter of Laura McKay, the penniless widow in Her Only Hero. I know that I did.

In Her Only Hero, Laura McKay is determined to succeed on her own. She has her daughter's welfare at stake. Laura must get the tumbling down house in the historical district renovated in order to sell it to the prospective buyer and pay for Mandy's cochlear implant that will allow her to hear. A bulldozer would be a good match against Laura's determination to provide for her daughter.

Enter Ryan Flanagan, the high school football hero, turned firefighter, who had never noticed Laura as a shy underclassman. Ryan meets Laura again after several years when he's called to her house by an anonymous phone call. This time around he does take notice. Physically fearless and an expert at keeping his heart safe from romantic entanglements, he runs up against Laura's beauty and headstrong stubborness.

Throw an arsonist into this mix and there are sparks aplenty while we head toward a combustible finale. In Her Only Hero, you will find that the characters have leapt off the page and into your hearts. Her Only Hero is destined to be a book that will be read over and over again. It's heart warming.
