Title of Book: The Arrow that Flieth by Day By Erin Rainwater Mandy was struck by a sound, one that she not only heard but actually felt. It was like thunder, rolling ever closer, and she thought the storm had finally arrived. Yet there was more to it…the vibration penetrated to the marrow. An ominous sense overtook her. She rose and turned slowly. Fear struck with a scorpion-like sting. A band of eight to ten Indians was racing toward her, their horses’ unshod hooves pounding the earth. Her hand flew to her belt and withdrew the revolver. Racing thoughts collided within her: stand and fight, or flee? There were more attackers than there were bullets. But was there time to make a run for the station? Fight? Or Flee? She raised the revolver and took aim. Traveling home, Mandy Berringer, mistaken to be part of a group of murderous whites, is taken captive by a band of angry Arapaho Indians. As the course of her life is forced on a diversion, what at first appears to be an ominous situation, develops into an experience that tones and cultivates Mandy into the strong woman the Arapaho lovingly call Woman Shot with Sun’s Arrow. As she prepares for the journey home to Colorado, a crippling accident closely followed by a raging epidemic prevents her from leaving. However, it is love slowly grown that holds her bound to these native people. One, in particular, captures her heart, and it with him that she begins a new life. Dakota, half-white son of the Chief, is strong and capable and at last finds an opportunity to take his beloved Mandy home. Before reaching their destination, God redirects their paths. However, this time, they must travel alone. Trials and tests are thrown their way, causing them to stumble, but will they fall? Will their marriage withstand the heat of the fire as God refines them into vessels pleasing to him? Rainwater has taken character development to a new level in The Arrow that Flieth by Day. Each one is deep and complex, and by the end of the book, you will feel you have made new friends. With enough twists and turns to satisfy even the most demanding reader, this book will keep you wondering until the last page is turned. Full of action, yet not lacking in depth of emotions, The Arrow that Flieth by Day is an adventure to read. |
