93607: The Reliance, Legacy of the King's Pirates Series #2

BACK COVER:

Captain Edmund Merrick, convinced his pregnant wife, Charlisse, is dead, sails away to drown his sorrows. Having turned his back on God, Edmund reverts to a life of villainy and joins forces with the demented French pirate Collier. When Edmund’s mind clears from its rum-induced haze, will he be able to pull himself up from the depths to which he has sunk?

Believing herself abandoned by her new husband, Charlisse begins to battle her own insecurities, as well as the vengeful pirate Kent who now holds her and the Lady Isabel captive. Will Charlisse lose her love for Edmund as well as the life of her unborn child?

As they battle the tempests that threaten to tear them apart, is there any way Edmund and Charlisse can regain the helm and steer their way back to the haven they both so desperately seek? Or will their love drown in a whirlpool of treachery and deceit?

REVIEWER'S COMMENTS:

Har, ‘tis a mighty good pirate tale, ‘tis that one! Set against a backdrop of stormy seas and piracy in the Caribbean, The Reliance is a story of loves gained and lost, the battles of good and evil, and treasures—both the earthly and the eternal.

Charlisse and Captain Merrick, recently married, face struggles that threaten to tear the marriage apart. Merrick, thinking his wife is dead, returns to the company of a bottle of rum and the filthy debauchery of pirates. Charlisse’s faith and resolve are tested as she realizes Merrick thinks her dead and will not be coming to her rescue.

She must stand on her own, relying only on God to get her through whatever may come.

MaryLu Tyndall has created a cast of very real characters, each one facing his or her own demons, each one searching for something better. One can almost see the spiritual battles raging, as each character weighs choices made and sees the consequences played out. I had visions of the angel on one shoulder, the devil on the other, as Charlisse and Merrick waded through the lies of the devil to find the truth.

We all struggle with the lies satan would love for us to believe. This book is such a great reminder that we must seek Truth above all else, even when circumstances do not look pleasant. Our treasures must ONLY lie in Christ, and we must rely only on His wisdom for daily living. He must be our Reliance!
